A hand, a moon, a crown, a date: who said that the French were complicated?
Olivier Müller
Watchmaking loves complications. They are most often the object of male desire, for example when the flyback chronograph meets the perpetual calendar against a backdrop of a minute repeater. But as we like to say across the Channel: “less is more“. This is the credo followed, literally, by the MeisterSinger brand. 100% independent, it follows a watchmaking path that is as rare as it is playful: the single-hand watch. If you don’t like to be on time, let alone on time, the MeisterSinger will be the ally of those for whom the 15 minutes of politeness is a way of life. A watchmaking vesicle!
Today, the brand offers France a model that will be distributed only within its borders, limited to 25 copies: a Lunascope all dressed in black. Playing the card of extreme sobriety, the piece has a case of 40 mm in diameter, stainless steel, fully coated with DLC – Diamond-Like Carbon – black. With properties similar to those of diamond, this coating is extremely hard and scratch resistant.
Perfect reading
In contrast, the reading of the indexes and the hand is perfect. It is the same for the moon. Located at noon – a rare location for a moon phase – it will scroll at a monthly rhythm that is certainly rather superfluous nowadays, but so poetic! The set is completed with a date at 6 o’clock. With a – too small – power reserve of only 38 hours, the special French edition of the Lunascope is equipped with a Swiss-made self-winding mechanical caliber that can be admired through the transparent case back. However, rarity has a price: 3,890 euros. It will be on sale from January 2021.
