Watchmakers are not afraid of anything. Not even oxymorons. So here is the new Roger Dubuis “Blacklight”. To let his dark side shine?
Olivier Müller
The watchmaking planet is populated by strange creatures. Some live by day, others by night. Among these vesper tribes, some like to shine. We remember the late De Grisogono, whose dials and bracelets were luminescent once the sun went down. But today, Roger Dubuis goes further.
Already, with a more accomplished watchmaking mastery. Roger Dubuis is a Geneva-based manufacturer whose watches are certified with the Poinçon de Genève, attesting to the excellence of their finishing. Then, there is an undeniable aesthetic mastery. The skeletonized movement of the Excalibur collection, with its visible bridges and extreme airiness, is instantly recognizable. Apart from Hsyek, another independent manufacture, few houses have mastered skeletonization to such an advanced degree.
Finally, there is creativity. Roger Dubuis has demonstrated this, notably with an improbable watch featuring miniatures of the Knights of the Round Table, or with ultra-exclusive models dedicated to Lamborghini or Pirelli.
With the Blacklight, the brand plays with light and shadow. During the day, the timepiece takes on white, black and gray tones. When night comes, caliber and highlights explode in a kaleidoscope of flashy and explosive tones, like neon lights illuminating a megalopolis under a starry sky. The piece is built around a network of crystalline sapphire microstructures that glow in UV light. The icing on the cake: even the bracelet is luminescent. To be sure not to go unnoticed, even at night. Limited edition of eight pieces offered exclusively in stores.
