For his 88th birthday, the great-grandson of the founder of Heuer, now TAG Heuer, is dedicated an exceptional Carrera, limited to only 188 pieces in gold.. The man celebrated his birthday yesterday, November 19. Always smiling and warm, the man we met at length in La Chaux-de-Fonds – the headquarters of TAG Heuer – is one of the last direct heirs of a brand founded by his forefathers. As well as Jasmine and Olivier Audemars – Audemars Piguet -, Cédric Dodane – Dodane 1857, sixth direct generation, without interruption – and some very rare others. And it is to Jean-Christophe Babin, today CEO of Bulgari, that we owe the return of Jack Heuer to the watch manufacturer.
The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Jack Heuer Gold Limited Edition is inspired by Jack’s favorite vintage model: the Heuer Carrera 1158CHN. Every detail tells the story of Jack & TAG Heuer. With its minimalist design, this chronograph pays tribute to Heuer’s style and Jack’s sense of detail and precision. The watch bears its motto on the oscillating weight: “Time never stops, why should it?”
Gold is a precious metal that he chose for the watches that he symbolically offered to automobile drivers, in particular to hire them or to thank them for their promotional support for the watchmaking company that bore his name and of which he was, at the time, the head. A lucky watch worn by drivers such as Ronnie Peterson, Niki Lauda or Clay Regazzoni. The name of the collection originated one day when Jack heard about a perilous race – the Carrera Panamericana. The original Spanish word “carrera”, meaning road, race, course or career, resonates in him and becomes that of a collection. Born in 1963, the TAG Heuer Carrera is not only Jack Heuer’s favorite collection, it is also the first watch that he created entirely, choosing and registering its name, defining its aesthetics down to the smallest detail. This exclusive tribute watch, equipped with the Heuer 02 manufacture chronograph movement, will be available for pre-order from November 19, 2020, then in TAG Heuer boutiques and online from March 2021.
