A magnificent book has just been published,\ntaking the reader into a\nwhile allowing him to penetrate within mythical places\nand not easily accessible to the general public.<\/h3>\n\n<h4 id=\"by-timothe-guillotin\">By Timoth\u00e9 Guillotin<\/h4>\n\n<p>It is a job that is still unknown to the general public. So, from\nAt first sight, we could imagine that the curator is to the museum what the\nconductor is at the Opera: the one who organizes, preserves and, from\ndevotes his daily life to the institution he represents.\nHowever, by questioning these guardians of heritage on the issues related to its\nprofession, you will undoubtedly hear them evoke, from the outset, the notion\nof transmission. To transmit, a culture, a know-how, the infatuation for\nan artist, a movement or a period remains essential to them.\nThen comes the seductive and no less important idea of making the\npublic in time and space.  <\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/lhonoremagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/visuel.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1506\" width=\"347\" height=\"461\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lhonoremagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/visuel.jpeg 480w, https:\/\/lhonoremagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/visuel-320x425.jpeg 320w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 347px) 100vw, 347px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n<p>To achieve their goals, the curators redouble their ingenuity each season by organizing ever more creative events to highlight their work. Also, some people sometimes use classic tools, such as the publication of a book, which, if perfectly executed, can be very effective.  <em>\n  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.editionspierredetaillac.com\/nos-ouvrages\/catalogue\/beaux-livres\/100-tresors-des-bibliotheques-militaires\">The 100 Treasures of Military Libraries<\/a>\n<\/em> has the double advantage of taking the reader on a real journey while allowing him or her to enter mythical places that are difficult to access for the general public. An exceptional heritage document, the book is the result of meticulous work by the curators of the five main French military libraries: Polytechnique, Saint Cyr Co\u00ebtquidan, \u00c9cole militaire, the Service Historique de la D\u00e9fense and the Service historique des arm\u00e9es. For almost two years, each of them has been working to select their most beautiful pieces so that they can be gathered in a single work. L&#8217;Honor\u00e9 Magazine unveils in exclusivity some of the most beautiful archives. There too, with the will to transmit.  <\/p>\n\n<p>Built in six\nparts, the book <em>The 100 Treasures\nof Military Libraries<\/em> opens with an essential historical theme\n: war. This first chapter is entitled The Art of War in reference to the\ntreatise on strategy\nof the Chinese Sun Tzu. It takes us to the high places of\nmilitary history through a plethora of handwritten maps, plans of\nbattlefields and reproductions of battle scenes. In the middle of these archives, there is\nalso include more surprising documents such as a guide to the perfect\naide-de-camp dated 1760, which urges novice officers to &#8220;be young\nof body and old of mind&#8221;.  <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lhonoremagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Capture-d&#x2019;e&#x301;cran-2019-12-13-a&#x300;-14.10.59.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1508\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>In the second part, the &#8220;Discovery of\nworld&#8221;<em>, the <\/em>book\ntakes us across the continents: from the Canary Islands to the Mekong basin\nthrough Australia and the province of Rio de Janeiro. We are\ninvited to embark on this long journey\nalongside the most prestigious explorers such as Guillaume Le Testu or\nMarco Polo. Immediately, it appears that the exploration of the surface\nwill remain an unequalled factor of evolution. Each new territory\nindeed brings its share of subjects to think about, traditions to discover and\nknowledge to be developed. It is from this knowledge,\nscientific and technical, which is discussed in the third part of the\nbook. Named, &#8220;Sciences &amp; Technologies&#8221;, it makes the part\nto mechanics, fauna and flora, anatomy or the universe\nmarine. We also discover the medical techniques of the time with\nfor example, a manual of bandages and devices for use by surgeons in\nthe army.<\/p>\n\n<p>Afterwards, you will be immersed in the life of the\nmilitary of yesteryear. Here again, we can see the progress over the years\ncenturies through the representations of the different tools of the daily life of the\nsoldiers: vehicles, gymnastic books, medical instruments&#8230; This chapter\nintroduces the fascinating notion of the communication of the armies thanks to, among other things\nother, to posters and other propaganda materials.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lhonoremagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Capture-d&#x2019;e&#x301;cran-2019-12-13-a&#x300;-14.10.21.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1509\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>Before presenting the five libraries in a sixth and final\nlast part, we can find some pieces as unique\nin the chapter entitled &#8220;Surprise and curiosity&#8221;.\nSpecial mention to the typical recipes of a Paris under siege.\nPublished during the war of 1870, when the winter is harsh and poor in\nfood reserve, this text proposes among other delights, the stew of\ndog and cat stew&#8230;<\/p>\n\n<p>Like the activity of curators, libraries\nmilitary remain an unknown universe.
